When to visit

The best season is October to February, when the weather is dry and mild — ideal for beaches and temple visits. The monsoon (June–September) is dramatically green but very wet, with rough seas. March to May is hot and humid.

How to reach

Main article: Transportation

Kundapura is on NH-66 and the Konkan Railway. The nearest airport is Mangaluru (~100 km). Frequent buses and trains connect it to Udupi, Mangaluru, Bhatkal and beyond. See the Transportation article for details.

Suggested one-day itinerary

A classic day: sunrise at Kodi beach → darshan at Anegudde → a koli saaru or ghee-roast lunch in town → afternoon boat ride on the backwaters → sunset along Maravanthe.

Two-day & pilgrim options

With a second day, add Kollur Mookambika and a Kodachadri excursion, plus the historic Basrur temples. Pilgrims often combine Kollur, Anegudde and the Udupi Krishna temple in one circuit.

Where to stay & tips

Accommodation ranges from beach resorts near Maravanthe to budget lodges in Kundapura town and homestays in the villages. Carry light cotton clothing, respect temple dress codes, and heed local warnings about sea currents near river mouths.
